1900 --Early in the 20th
century, local residents did business with Franklin County State
Bank, which occupied the same site as the present Hampton State Bank
main office.
1934 - When Franklin County
State bank closed, a citizens' committee made visits to depositors,
asking them to keep their funds in the newly organized Hampton State
Bank. On January 18, the bank's Articles of Incorporation were
approved. On February 3, Grand Opening celebration activities
were held in the newly remodeled building.
1930-1950
- Inside the teller cage, staff members used the two adding machines
to balance all of the transactions at the close of each day.
Outside the teller cage, mothers did their banking while their
children waited on the leather seats by the wall. For men,
spittoons were conveniently located throughout the lobby.
1942
- During WWII, employees of Hampton State Bank volunteered many
hours to work on Civil Defense Bond records and sales.
1954
- Hampton State Bank opened an office in Latimer, previously the
State Bank of Latimer; one year later, Latimer State Bank organized
under separate charter.
1959
- 25th anniversary
1963
- Main bank building remodeled
1968
- Ivan and Janiece Davis purchase an interest in the Hampton State
Bank. Davis is named President.
1973
- The drive-up building, located just two blocks north of the main
office, was dedicated on December 3. Hampton State Bank was
the first bank in the county to offer the convenience of drive-up
banking.
1975
- The bank’s main office was struck by a fire on February 24,
which destroyed the interior of the bank. Quick-thinking bank
employees put all the bank’s vital records in the safe before
evacuating the scene, thereby saving all the bank’s records.
Locals recall the day HSB’s safety deposit boxes were pulled
across the street to a temporary site.
1976
- Dedication of new bank building on October 1.
1984
- 50th anniversary. First bank in county to offer
discount brokerage.
1988
- First bank in county to purchase in-house computer system.
1989
- First bank in county to offer full service brokerage Investment
Center. First chartered bank in county to start senior’s club and
offer a service guarantee. Remodeled main bank.
1991
- First bank in county to receive FDIC’s outstanding CRA rating.
1993 -
First bank in county to introduce debit card "Quick
Check." First bank in county to offer an offsite ATM
located in county.
1994
- 60th anniversary. Brad Davis named President and
CEO.
1997
- First bank in county to offer web site,
www.hamptonstate.com.
1999
- First bank in county to offer telephone banking with a Spanish
option. 65th anniversary celebration
2001
- First bank in Hampton to offer check imaging
2002
- Launched internet banking and bill payer
2003
- First bank in county to offer CDARS (Certificate of Deposit
Account Registry Service).
2005
- Launched Come Home to Franklin County® , a first-of-its-kind
economic development initiative.
2006
- First bank in Hampton to use Check 21 (sending and receiving
images rather than paper checks).
2009
- 75th anniversary
